AV Webcam Morpher 2.0: Change Your Webcam Background Easily and Help Protect Your Identity

AVnex Ltd. | 24 Jan 2008

http://www.audio4fun.com - Changing the background behind a nickface for more anonymity is now available to webcam buffs with AV Webcam Morpher 2.0 (AV WCM2.0). Since its debut on Jan 15th, the latest product in the AV Webcam series by AVnex Ltd., has been well received for its new feature, Background Changer, which makes nickfaces during a webcam session appear “more real”, as some end-users have commented in their feedback.

‘Nickface’, a term used in this unique software, refers to a virtual persona that the webcam software will broadcast as a replacement for the actual webcam image of the user. In its previous version, AV Webcam Morpher 1.0, nickfaces are put against one fixed background with no changeability. WCM2.0 features 30 nickfaces on different backgrounds. This is supported by a control panel that allows various adjustments to hue, saturation, luminance, and other color modifications for better and more realistic graphic effects.

“Users say it’s ‘more realistic’”, reported William Wilson, Head of the Customer Service Department, “They say it is exactly what they’ve been waiting for since the first version, where the nickfaces and their gestures were smooth, but the background needed more variety. And now we’ve done it with this Background Changer.”

The background changing feature is the result of thorough lab work. The lab team at AVnex has been working on the AV WCM 2.0 project for nearly 10 months prior to its official launch January 15th, with a special focus on the background module. What they finally have is two new powerful modules, namely Background Changer and Nickface Maker Module. The webcam utility now smoothly broadcasts all of the nickfaces, along with a wide variety of gestures and motions, on 5 default backgrounds. The number of backgrounds will grow quickly, as users can also manually add their own photos into the gallery.

Although sometimes the nickface appears rough around the edge of the image, this can be significantly reduced with the help of the accompanied setting panel. “Of course, this roughness issue [or “saw-tooth”] will be smoothed out as soon as we see advancement in the graphic technology. In the meantime, it’s the best the webcam morphing category can offer. It speaks to our determination to provide users with more fun and safety in cyberspace,” said Tracy Norman, the webcam series Brand Manager.

The software was launched amid rising concern over identity theft through webcam broadcasting. Cyber criminals gather information that webcam users unwittingly let slip through their hands when they are on cam, such as background, room setting, and some other unique clues. They then use this information to track down innocent webcam broadcasters. With AV WCM 2.0, any identity-sensitive person will be protected behind a nickface, while they are still able to enjoy the fun of broadcasting their opinions, emotions, and feelings online through the nickface’s rich body language.

The current version of AV Webcam Morpher 2.0 comes with 30 nickfaces, each with its own, extensive set of gestures that are easily accessed through an icon interface, and 10 preset nickvoices. It also includes an enriched Morpher Effects library for manually customizing the nickvoices, and a Nickface Maker Module, which helps users create their own nickfaces to further boost their cyber fun and safety. Though the module is said to be a little advanced for new users, with just a little practice, anyone can master providing a convincing nickface performance. Due to its popularity, the company will continue to focus its development efforts on the program.
