Bitsmith Software Releases Portable Version of Personal Knowbase Note Management Software

Bitsmith Software has released version 3.1 of its Personal Knowbase note management software for Windows. The new release introduces the option to install Personal Knowbase on any portable media, such as USB drives. Users can now carry their information with them and access it from any Windows computer.

Personal Knowbase is an application for capturing and organizing text information. It uses a keyword-based system for tagging notes for instant access. By assigning relevant keywords to stored notes, a user can easily find all related notes. By filtering on keywords and other criteria, a user controls exactly which notes are viewed at any time.

A user can now install Personal Knowbase on a USB stick, memory card, or other removable media. Plug it into any Windows computer to access notes anywhere. Check facts. Record new notes. Copy information from the computer being used. Keep notes private with password protection. When the USB drive is unplugged, no personal information or settings are left behind on the computer.

Portability provides a solution for employees and consultants whose workplaces prohibit the installation of new software on work computers. When Personal Knowbase is plugged in, running on a removable drive, it provides a convenient note-keeping system without interfering with the computers being visited.

When running from a removable drive, one can load Personal Knowbase data files from that drive or the local computer. If a user stores data files on the removable drive, the software knows to look for them there, even when moved to another computer using different drive letters. Data and preferences travel with the USB drive, always on hand.

The new version also improves productivity by adding a spell-checker and additional paragraph format options. Exporting includes a new option to export notes to standard CSV files, readable by spreadsheet and database programs.
