Authors of the book "Simply Quit Drinking: An Inspirational Journey From Near Death" are auctioning the book original proof copy, signed, to raise funds for Shelter House of Fairfax County, Va. and the couple’s daughter. The book describes how Karen Price nearly died coping with anxiety and alcoholism. Her daughter, now 1 year old, played a very large part in Price’s recovery.
The authors chose Shelter House of Fairfax County because Price spent some of her darkest alcoholism days living in that county. Shelter House provides temporary emergency housing and supportive services to homeless families, and it carries out its mission in partnership with Fairfax County and other agencies. The “Buy it Now," set at $150,000 would reap $30,000 to Shelter House, but the starting bid is $1,500.
"I owe much more back to the community of Fairfax County than I can every repay, but I'm trying to help. Doctors in Fairfax County helped save my life, and law enforcement also," says Price.
"I got up at 4:30 every morning to write this book-- 1,000 words per day-- before my daughter woke up. Then I got her ready for daycare and went to my full time job," says Price. "I spend a lot of time early in the morning working now on our websites before I go to work."
Price was a product manager at both AOL and New York Times during her difficult struggle, and as a result lost her employment. Price tells an inspirational story of surviving and finding a will to live. A software marketing professional with an M.B.A., Price has finally regained her career status and her life after years of struggling from 2003 to 2006.
