In the Chair™ was awarded the Best Australian Made Product of 2006 at the Australian Music Association’s annual Gala Award. The Award was presented to In the Chair by Seymour Duncan, a highly regarded and influential figure in the music industry.

Graham Hoskins, President of the Australian Music Association described In the Chair as “an innovative new Australian product that is quite revolutionary – a fantastic learning aid for students and amateur musicians that looks set to become a worldwide hit!”

The judges commented that this year’s line up of nominations was the strongest yet, including Australian-made guitars, print music and pre-school music education programs. In the Chair stood out for being ground breaking, adding a completely new direction to the industry.

Judges included Paul McManus, the chief executive of the Music Industries Association of the United Kingdom as well as Australian music products experts.

In the Chair is music education software that brings professional bands and orchestras to students and has the innovative ability to ‘listen’ to a performance and provide immediate feedback on musical nuances. This immediately encourages students and challenges them to improve their instrumental skills.

The provision of video allows students to see the band or conductor, making them feel as if they are part of the band. This immersive feeling is an important part of the software’s ability to capture a student’s attention and make practice easy and enjoyable.

For the software company, whose idea originated from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, being recognized by the top music products industry body of Australia represents an important milestone to the team.
