Popular among teachers, parents, and others seeking to manage their time efficiently for both its ease-of-use and functionality, one of this simple-but-handy program's most attractive features is its price: completely free.

Cool Timer was originally written by its author to manage how much time his kids spent on the computer. It can be set for any amount of time up to 100 hours, tucked away tidily in the Windows System Tray, then pops up and sounds an alarm, which can be any Wav, Midi, or MP3 file, when time expires. This makes the program useful for teachers when delegating time in the classroom for students to perform certain tasks, or for cooking, exercising, taking breaks, etc.

The new version (3.0) boasts several new features including the ability to function as an alarm clock, complete with "snooze" feature. When operating in this mode, the user just specifies a time that they wish the alarm to sound just like a normal alarm clock. The difference is that any sound file can be used as the alarm sound, so one might use a really loud, obnoxious sound to ensure that they wake up on time.
